- 30 Seconds To Mars' 'Hurricane' Video Set: Stunts And Bunny Suits
Guitarist Tomo Milicevic offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse at what looks like a worthy successor to such epic 30STM efforts as 'Kings and Queens.'
By James Montgomery (@positivnegativ)
Information about 30 Seconds to Mars' "Hurricane" video has been pretty difficult to come by in recent weeks. Even though it's already been shot, about the only things we could tell you was that it is "a meditation on the violence of sex and the sex of violence" and that Jared Leto spends a good portion of it shirtless.
But now we've got even more details about "Hurricane," and they come straight from the guys in 30STM themselves.
In a video recorded as part of VH1's "Posted" series, guitarist Tomo Milicevic gives fans a guided tour of the "Hurricane" set — which, on this night, was the corner of 27th Street and 11th Avenue in Chelsea — and revealed some secrets of the shoot. From the sound of things, this one is shaping up to be a worthy successor to clips such as "Kings and Queens" and "Closer to the Edge."
"Rumor has it that apparently we, 30 Seconds to Mars, make epic videos. ... I didn't say that, that's just what I heard, so I guess people may expect something grandiose here and larger than life, and we will not disappoint," Milicevic said. "Jared's got, like, a really wacky mind when it comes to his vision for the music, so usually it turns out pretty great."
Other details revealed in the video: One scene, shot in Central Park, apparently features four Milicevics playing a single guitar solo (special effects!), Leto's brother (and 30STM drummer) Shannon does his own motorcycle stunts, and, uh, Milicevic also gets to make out with a woman in a rubber bunny suit. And take a guess which part of the shoot he enjoyed most?
"I got to make out with this chick who was wearing a rubber bunny suit. ... I highly recommend it," he said, laughing. "Certainly, there are worse ways to spend your night."

- We just received an email from 30 Seconds To Mars drummer Shannon Leto, so we wanted to make sure to get it in your hot little hands as quickly as possible. Don’t forget, we’re constantly grabbing updates from Shannon and the rest of the guys all month long and putting them up over on our VH1 Posted site. Enjoy!
Hello all, just landed in NYC from London, slept the whole way! We were over there to do Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show, and it was amazing, one of those times where you’re challenged with all sorts of things the whole day and then it all works out at the end. It’s kind of how it is when you try to do the best you can possibly do. Anyway, I’m here in NYC for a couple of days, where we will focus on the production aspect of our sold-out arena tour in the UK and Europe. Of course, we have nothing in place yet, and the tour starts in six weeks!!! Yeee haaaaw!!! — Shannon

- Jared Leto picks music video dancer at Pacha
Jared Leto meant business when he popped into Pacha the other night and asked to be led into the club dancers' private dressing room. Sources tell us the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman showed up at 1:45 a.m. and explained, "He was there to personally cast one of the dancers in his next music video. He lined them up in the dressing room, asked them to show off a few moves, and decided on a young Russian blonde who couldn't believe her luck." A rep for Leto didn't get back to us.

- MINNEAPOLIS -The First Avenue night club in downtown Minneapolis was completely jam-packed Tuesday night to see one of the hottest bands going today, and 30 Seconds To Mars didn't let the eager crowd down.
Lead singer Jared Leto - equally known for his acting -is an engaging front-man, with a crisp, clear voice. Undoubtedly, he's a good-looking man; the girls in the crowd screamed when he took off his shirt half-way through the set. The band played 14 songs over about 75 minutes, which was a little shorter than I expected and hoped for, especially since they had just one opening group. However, Leto kept the crowd fired up the entire time, with one energetic rock song after another. Early in the set, 30 Seconds To Mars played one of their radio hits, "A Beautiful Lie," with the whole crowd singing along. Leto then told the crowd that the first dozen people who crowd-surfed to the front would be invited on stage to help him sing "Kings and Queens," the first radio hit off the bands' third (and latest) disc, "This Is War." Of course, this quickly meant a dozen tiny teens were quickly being passed forward over my head. It was a wild and crazy scene. Leto decided to skip all the songs from the band's first CD, choosing to play most of the new songs off of "This Is War." As the album's title suggests, one song after another is a ‘fight song,' encouraging people to stand up and not back down. It's an engaging album, and perhaps the best rock disc of the year. (It's worth noting that 30 Seconds To Mars is the only rock band to win a ‘Moon man' at this year's MTV video awards.) Leto belted out songs like "This Is War," "Search and Destroy," and "Hurricane," which are all off the new CD. The group's latest radio hit, "Closer To The Edge," which is getting significant airplay on VH1, was an incredible interactive live song, with the crowd knowing its part after having seen the video. Let then slowed it down with another new song, doing an acoustic version of "Alibi," which is perhaps the only slow-tempo song on the new CD. The band closed its set with "The Kill," off the group's second CD, "A Beautiful Lie," then finished with another song from that album, "The Fantasy." It was a nice way to close out a high-energy show. Leto knows how to work a crowd. He taunted fans in the back who were sitting down and he ridiculed someone who was texting a message. Even though us crazy fans squished up front were a sweat-soaked mess, he urged the crowd to take three steps forward and make us feel even more like the proverbial sardines-in-a-can. I'm glad I had a clean, dry shirt in my car to change into for my ride home! I wrote a blog after this year's Rock Fest where I suggested a lineup for the 2011 event. To me, 30 Seconds to Mars should be at the top of that list for organizers to lock in. The band has great appeal to the younger rock fans, but will also do well with older rockers. I've been fortunate enough to have seen them three times now. The first time, after their first CD came out in 2002, they played before perhaps only 300 people in the tiny Ascot Room at the Quest Night Club. They've absolutely exploded in their popularity since then. Prior to forming the group, 38-year-old Leto became known for his acting, particularly his role as Jordan Catalano on the short-lived "My So-Called Life." He went on to be in movies like the Oscar nominated "The Thin Red Line" and "Girl Interrupted." He is perhaps best known for his role as a junkie in "Requiem For A Dream." It's a haunting performance that should definitely be seen. Opening for 30 Seconds to Mars was skater punk rock group New Politics. They played about 35 minutes, and didn't do much for me. If you're a big fan of Green Day, you'll probably like these guys. | |

- Video Sneak Peek: 30 Seconds To Mars, 'Hurricane'
30 Seconds To Mars have a lot to live up to with their video for "Hurricane." With their last video, "Closer To The Edge," the band took a huge, cinematic leap forward. With hundreds of members of The Echelon featured, stunning globe-trotting cinematography employed and breathtaking performance footage captured, "Closer To The Edge" has made it official that every subsequent 30STM video will be an event. So with each release now, they're going to have to come with something special. Frontman Jared Leto had told MTV News that the clip would be "a surrealistic nightmare dream-fantasy through the desolate empty streets of New York City at night." And, with this brief sneak peek of the "Hurricane" video, all I can say is it looks like that mission will surely be accomplished. Via rapid jump cuts, we see the following: gorgeous cityscapes, some freaky-deaky S&M masks, a half-naked Jared Leto (who looks like he's been putting at least 10 minutes into the whole six-minute abs thing), Shannon Leto riding around on a motorcycle, some Lady Gaga-esque women in PVC nun habits, some more freaky deaky S&M action, a bunch of religious imagery, some cockroaches and, of course, more near-naked Jared. Whew! And that's JUST a 30-second sneak peek! The only thing that could make us more excited to see "Hurricane" is if it featured a Kanye West cameo, like their live performance of the song at the MTV EMAs did. But based on what we've seen, we won't be complaining. Check out the video sneak peek of 30 Seconds To Mars' "Hurricane," below.

- Must Watch: 30 Seconds To Mars' 'Hurricane' Sneak Peek, 'The Telephone'
Posted 17 hrs ago by Chris Ryan in Celebrity, Music, Videos
Yesterday we showed you an enthralling teaser for 30 Seconds To Mars' "Hurricane" film. The preview gave an impressionistic sketch of Jared Leto's "Jared" character. Today we have another, no less beguiling clip, one that suggests the importance of a lone telephone to the video's narrative.
Reportedly 20 minutes in length, 30STM's "Hurricane" film is, according to frontman Jared Leto, "a surrealistic nightmare dream-fantasy through the desolate empty streets of New York City at night."
The below preview is cut like something out of a David Fincher thriller. Not entirely surprising, seeing as how Jared Leto--who reportedly directed "Hurricane" under the name "Bartholomew Cubbins"--has appeared in a couple of Fincher flicks in the past.
In a series of quick cuts we see a telephone, some cockroaches and some ladies, um, exchanging pleasantries. "The Telephone" preview moves pretty fast, so keep you peepers peeled.
Also keep your peepers peeled for the full epic "Hurricane" film from 30 Seconds To Mars, dropping on Nov. 29 at 5 p.m. EST on MTV.com.

The full version of the short film will premiere on MTV.com at 5pm EST on Monday, November 29th with 1 of 3 short broadcast versions premiering in primetime that evening on MTV2. The band released the first of the series of teasers last week, giving fans a sneak peak of the Bartholomew Cubbins directed video which was shot on location in New York City. Long time Thirty Seconds To Mars collaborator, Cubbins has helmed many of the band’s videos including this year’s MTV VMA winning video for “Kings & Queens,” the first single from their album This Is War. Thirty Seconds To Mars also won a 2010 EMA award for Best Rock Band and Best International Band at this year’s Kerrang! Awards.
This Is War’s 3rd single “Closer To The Edge” is currently climbing the alternative radio charts where it broke into the top 10 this week. It is the follow up to the albums 2-consecutive #1 singles “Kings & Queens” and “This Is War.” “Closer To The Edge” will impact Top 40 radio in January.
The band has spent most of the last year touring the world in support of This Is War. They are currently headlining a sold-out arena tour throughout Europe which includes a night at London’s legendary O2 Arena. They return to the U.S. for a special New Year’s Eve show at the Palm Casino Resort in Las Vegas and will begin a new U.S. tour presented by HP on January 11th (full schedule below).
This Is War was originally released in December 2009 and has been certified gold in six different countries around the world including Germany, South Africa, Austria, Belgium, Australia and a double gold award in the U.K. Earlier this month, Thirty Seconds To Mars released a deluxe edition of This Is War, which includes “Hurricane 2.0” featuring Kanye West, live versions of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and Kanye West’s “Stronger” which the band recorded for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, and the “Kings & Queens” and “Closer To The Edge” videos along with bonus DVD content. - Jared Leto talks 'banned' Thirty Seconds to Mars video: 'It's an interesting double standard'
by Simon Vozick-Levinson
Jared Leto wasn’t completely surprised when TV networks refused to air his band’s racy “Hurricane” video. “We always knew there would be some images that would have a tough time getting through,” says the Thirty Seconds to Mars singer, who called the Music Mix while driving to the band’s next gig in Brighton, England today. “But we didn’t expect this kind of pushback that we’re getting now.”
In fact, the “Hurricane” clip that 30STM submitted for TV had already been edited down from the original. “I had always planned on having an explicit version and then a version that was not so explicit,” Leto says. “The version that we were trying to get on broadcast is not the explicit version, and that’s still having a really difficult time.”
Leto wonders just why the networks were so offended by the video’s sexual images. “I’m not interested in provocation for provocation’s sake,” he says. “I just think it’s interesting that when you turn on the news or whatever else catches your interest, how much violence and negativity is available out there. As soon as it comes time for sexuality, it’s a big shock that people are sexual beings. It’s an interesting double standard to me.”
Now he is debating how whether to edit “Hurricane” further to meet TV standards. “You know, at another time I would say, ‘Absolutely not.’ I would refuse 1,000 percent to change what I felt was important. But with this film, I’m not so sure I would cut off the nose to spite its face, so to speak…There are creative solutions to every problem. Certainly it would be difficult for people to air a 13-minute-long music video slash short film, regardless of the content. I think people have dealt with this in different ways in the past. People have made cuts. People like Mark Romanek have gotten creative and had ‘scene missing’ cards [for Nine Inch Nails' 'Closer'].” In any case, it sounds likely that Leto will post the full clip online soon. “That’s a great opportunity, and we’re going to take full advantage of that.”
While Kanye West worked with Thirty Seconds to Mars on an alternate version of “Hurricane” (the song), he wasn’t involved in the video. At least, not yet. “I have talked to him about it,” Leto says. “I’ve sent him some images and some clips. We’re still plotting and planning, so you never know.” In the meantime, the rocker has been jamming out to West’s new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. “It’s great,” he raves. “There’s no denying the talent and the artistry at work there. It’s nice to see that hard work pays off…He came and did a song with us at the [MTV Europe Music Awards]. At the last minute, literally, probably three or four minutes before we walked on stage in front of 60,000 people on a city street in Madrid, he looks over at me and says, ‘Hey, what do you think about throwing ‘Power’ in the middle of the song?’ I said, ‘Let’s do it!’ So we just went out and threw it together. It was a pretty magical experience.”

En parallèle, le rockeur has been jamming out (?) du nouvel album de West, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. "C'est super", he raves (?).
