We do love a guy with a
talent. And Jared Leto pretty much has it all. Not content with being
an amazing actor, he's also an exceptional musician. Oh, and he's pretty
damn hot as well.
When we spoke to him about the release of his
new film, Mr Nobody, we couldn't help but probe more about his other
acting roles, songwriting inspiration and plans for a new album. Luckily
for us, it seems that Jared has a few projects in the pipe-line so
won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Phew. Now excuse us while we
swoon.
We loved the film Mr Nobody. It obviously flits
between past, present and future. So, if you could, would you want to
see what your future holds?
No, I prefer the surprise of tomorrow. It keeps life interesting.
The film has a complex plot with some big scenes and special effects — what was it like to film?
I
loved it. It was a long shoot that took place in three different
countries over a period of six months with a French speaking crew. For
the old Nemo scene, there were six to eight hours of prosthetics a day
before shooting. The crew were so great to work with. They had all
previously worked with Jaco on his other films so it was like a family
coming together to make something really special. The other actors were
also incredible to work with so it was a really positive experience.
You have starred in numerous films and played many varied characters. Do you have a dream role?
I
don't have a dream role per se. There are lots of directors I'd love to
work with again for the first time - David Fincher, Fincher, Terrence
Malik, PT Anderson.
In Mr Nobody you star alongside some talented female actresses. How would your ideal female lead be?
There are so many incredible actresses from the past and present. I would have loved to be in a film with Olivia De Havilland.
You're also known for your music, too. Which do you prefer - music or acting?
They're
both wonderful things to be able to do and I'm very thankful to have
had the opportunity to experience them both. These days I have been busy
with the music for quite some time. We have been touring for nearly two
years now and will continue until December.
We're massive fans of 30 Seconds to Mars. Do you have any plans for a new release?
We
haven't started discussing that yet. I'm really focused on the current
record, This is War, and the European shows we have planned in November.
Considering how long we've been on the road, we're still pretty excited
and inspired by it all.
Lots of song writers say they can only write from personal experience. Is this true for you?
I'm influenced by lots of different things. Great books, fine arts,
films, travel, life experiences, and even a conversation can all
influence my songwriting. Sometimes the seemingly smaller mundane
moments can give a lot.
What do you make of shows like American Idol or X Factor? Would you have taken that route?
I've
never seen either so I can't comment, but I think anything that gives
people a chance to live their dreams is something good.
And finally, can you tell us an omg! shocking fact about yourself?
I'm a fourth degree Northern Shaolin Kung Fu Master.
Mr Nobody is out on DVD and Blu-Ray now.
