Thirty Seconds to Mars, Mute Math and Neon Trees with Special HIGH SCHOOL Guests yet to be decided.
4:07 pm Jared Leto and the band Thirty Seconds to Mars come into The Rail’s main hall to listen to the three High School bands selected to perform for an opening slot later that night. The band,Malik, Brogan Kelby and Ocean Floor Traffic are all from the Salt Lake Valley and all aged 14-18 respectively. All three bands played one song and all used Thirty Seconds to Mars’ gear, which is the top shelf of concert back line available and gladly made available by 30stm bands members.
Jared introduced himself and his band, asked for the names of the auditioning bands and then gave them some helpful hints on introducing themselves…”be proud of who you are…SAY it so they (audience) can hear you…now let’s ROCK!” said Leto to members of Malik. And they did just that…ROCKED, to 30stm, family members, VIP guests of the band, management of The Rail and X96’s Todd Nuke’m.
After all three groups performed their best song with NO rehearsal time whatsoever, Thirty Seconds to Mars gathered around us, asked again how many applicants their were (80 not including those disqualified submissions from the U.K., CA, NC, AZ and CO) and said “these kids are all great, we’re gonna let em all play.” Jared then gathered up the teen rockers and took time to talk to all of them about what he thought they were doing right and what he thought they could improve on. Something a jaded, fame encrusted icon would have never done. But Jared is NOT that kind of icon.
Leto mentors future rockers.
From a venue owner and promoters point of view we applaud the fact that Jared, and each member of the band, took the time to remind us all that talent goes way beyond the chords, beyond the beats and lyrics and beyond the green room and tour busses. This band is uber talented, with songs to prove their value ruling the charts, their personalities and commitment to their fan base is like none I’ve seen before, follow Leto’s tweets.
As concerts go, there’s always an angry concert goer or an arrogant and unreasonable tour manager with big shows like this that make things difficult for us, and with Hollywood cinematic successes and platinum records on his resume Jared could have been the definition of a megalomania-cal talent…but he was not.
So…Salt Lake has been witness to another amazing show at The Rail Event Center. As always The Rail strives to provide a stellar experience to everyone, from the ticket buyer to the crew to the talent. By the looks of the crowd throughout the night, you all partook in this stellar show as did we.
It made it that much nicer to see the talent take the time to invest back into to the fan base and mentor some future potential opening acts.
Thanks again Jared, you are top shelf talent worthy of decades of musical successes and are welcome back here anytime. This IS WAR !! | |
