Last week was
30 Seconds To Mars playing
a concert in Prague. And I was looking forward to this since December.
When EMI confirmed that I’ll make an interview with them, I was
delirious with delight. Two hours before the interview my glow of
happiness changed into nervousness. On my entering the dressing-room
Shannon Leto (drummer),
Tomo Milicevic (guitarist) and singer
Jared Leto (actor
too) knightly stood up and my nervousness and fear of English
disappeared. If there is a moment in our lives which change you forever
– than it was that moment at March 18th 2010 in Prague. And I’ll try to
share this with you in following interview, which band provided to only
one Slovakian representative medium.
Three years ago you were in Prague as a support band with Linkin Park. You are the headliners now – how do you feel about that? Tomo: We feel ready to be main stars.
Shannon: For us it’s exciting to be headliners. It means much more fans, bigger audience, bigger stage.
What else changed in last three years? Tomo: Very much. We changed too as a human being.
Shannon: Yes, your hair is longer. (laugh…)
Tomo: But it’s not just about that. I’m quite a different human being. I have different skin, tongue, teeth. Everything
Shannon: Your beard is blacker too. (laugh…)
What about you Jared? What changed in your life?Jared: I didn’t change. The world around me changes constantly. In any case we become more famous in last three years.
Shannon: Really? For me – absolutely.
Jared: Could we have a concert in Slovakia?
Sure! Jared: How many people would come to see us?
Hmm, maybe 4000. Jared:
Really? That’s not much. We’ll never come! But I would move to Slovakia
if I could live there. (Redactor’s remark: I gave to Jared a book about
Slovakia. You can see him browse it during the interview.)
Ok, let’s move on. You become a very popular. Do you have some special wishes? Shannon:
I never cared about popularity. We’re just a people who love their job.
We love making music and express ourselves thru that.
Tomo:
We don’t feel that in this way. I know, there are much more people
around us now, more photographing, but we feel the same way as before.
So it means that you’re still the same people as before? Tomo: Definitely.
What is important for you in your lives? Shannon: Sincerity, truth and fairness for all. Important is to do what you love and do not let someone to telling you what to do.
Tomo: Exactly. You have to follow your dreams. Than you do the right things.
And what about you Jared? Jared: You are important for me.
Thanks.
Let’s go back to your new CD. It’s not just a CD for me. It’s something
like a wonderful painting or magnificent sculpture… Jared: You probably have the same feelings as we did through the preparing
of this album. These songs are more than sound recordings.
How do you exactly writing that wonderful lyrics? Jared:
It’s difficult to describe. It’s kind of magic. Anything happens and
there it is. Maybe I’m sort of canal by which flows that words.
It sounds like a miracle. Jared:
Yes, there is a bit of miracle. I’m self-taught person, but we have
something special and we’re very grateful for that. We’re thankful to
people that they response that well. It’s a beautiful gift.
In one interview you said that The Fantasy is your most favorite song. Is it still true? Jared:I love this song really much but there is a lot of new songs now which
I enjoying to play as a Night Of The Hunter or Closer To The Edge.
Tomo: This Is War is great to play live and Search And Destroy too.
Shannon: I agree with guys. And I love Vox Populi.
You’re on a long tour. Do you miss your home? Tomo: I missed home a little bit today, because I’m missing Californian sun. (laugh…)
What the home mean to you? Where do you feel home?
Jared: Slovakia.
Shannon: I feel home on stage.
Tomo: Yes, exactly. There I feel the most normally.
Jared, your surname in my language means summer. Do you love summer? Jared: We bring summer everywhere we come to. I love summer.
