- Are either Pythagoras or Artemis being used in the recording of the new album? If so, which one?
Of course! Both guitars have been used and will continue to be used.
When will the UK store have more merchandise?
As soon as possible we promise!!!
You underlined a couple of times, how the songs on the albums are not randomly arranged, but telling a chronological story or aiming at a bigger theme. Keeping that in mind, have you considered any changes for your usual live shows, to strengthen this element for record number three on stage? Like a more theatrical- or storyline-concept as a central theme, which could take the audience through the performance?
One simple answer, a resounding YES!
Are you open to the possibility, of giving some of the talented musicians among your fan base (some of them even regulars on this board) the chance to play the opening band for you at one show?
We have always been open to that and have done so in the past in the States.
What is the new album’s theme? You had a space theme for your first album and life issues for A Beautiful Lie. Will the next one continue in the footsteps of ABL or go in a totally new direction?
This album has really opened us up to many new possibilities and we are talking about many things. Mostly inspired by the world surrounding us while creating this record.
Will there be a special or limited edition of the new album?
We have some plans for some unique packaging and limited edition bonus content.
Do you think that there is an essential message that 30stm has transmitted since the creation of the first album? If so, do you think it has evolved into something different?
We have always believed from the beginning in having an open mind, to think for yourselves, to take risks, to challenge one self, to learn, to experience life and what it has to offer…
Will there be a return of "missions" for the echelon with the coming of a new album?
The Glyphics mission is the first. Please continue to post your pics.
Do you think all the Echelon traditions regarding the tours such as code colors and home made 30 STM gear are still cool, or do you think it is time for a change?
Important question. It is time for a change. We must continue to move forward and evolve in all respects. Presentation and identity included. The color RED is important for many reasons and will remain so. It is the color of passion, the color of blood, the color of MARS. It should be left on the MARS flag, TRINITY seal, MITHRA seal and TYRE - (the arrow) ONLY from here on out. For this next phase BLACK attire will be the foundation and the canvas to build upon. This is war. White dress is for special occasions and should be ALL WHITE NO RED on any clothing at all. It should be kept special and limited to the previously mentioned symbols and icons. Please encourage everyone to join in this experiment. It will be a sight to see. -CRASH MINISTER OF PROPAGANDA [echelon]
How far do you think you are from reaching your personal goals as members of 30 STM?
As long as we keep expressing ourselves musically and visually and sharing the experience with others, then our goals are constantly being met.
What happened to the ideas we sent in for consideration by you guys?
We have read them all and will be using as many as possible in the future. Keep sending them in!
PART 4 : 10/09/2009 - Spoiler:
- Citation :
- Will we ever get a DVD of all the live footage you guys have filmed over the years.. dating back to 2002 to present?
Yes we will release it one day soon. We are currently at work on a film focused more on the time and circumstances during "THIS IS WAR".
Has there ever been a song written that has moved you so much you wish you had written it yourself? Or one that has inspired you to write a song of your own just because it of it's influence, either lyrically or musically?
We don't really wish we had written others songs, but lots of artists have inspired us. From Sigur Ros to Radiohead to The Cure.
What visual artists inspire your music? (i.e. Shepard Fairey, etc.) What are each of your favorite artists?
DAMIEN HIRST, LARRY SLEZAK, CHAPMAN BROTHERS, ANDY WARHOL, DALI ETC -J
What do you do to relax or get rid of stress?
BREATHE AND LISTEN
Many of us are wondering why the War theme is so important to you guys. Can you tell us why it is so important and what is the message behind it?
Mostly the use of war is a metaphor that represents for us the failure of achievement, of communication, or compromise. Battle, conflict, and dissent have been important elements worthy of examination but as important are joy, celebration, and good ol' optimism.
story behind/explanation of the [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] logo, any relation to Plato's AIR symbol?
YES. The symbol for air also represents for me matters of the spirit. Faith is an important theme explored in this album.
PART 5 : 07/01/2010 - Spoiler:
- Citation :
- What three words best describe the new album?
OPTIMISTIC, CELEBRATORY, EMPOWERING
What sort of feelings/emotions overcome you just before you go on stage to play a show and the atmosphere just hits you? WE ALL FEEL A SENSE OF EXCITMENT AND URGENCY, SORT OF LIKE THE FEELING YOU GET JUST BEFORE A FIGHT.
A question to Tomo & Jared: Have you ever used finger picking or the clawhammer technique, like Donovan does when you play your guitars? YES, WE ALSO USE THE CRAB TECHNIQUE AND THE RAVEN CLAW WHICH IS AN ANCIENT METHOD OF PICKING THE GUITAR STRINGS WITH THE TOES.
What do you think is most important in the music business nowadays: a unique sound, good lyrics, getting people involved and create a sense of community and unity or appeal to the teenagers or none of the above? PROBABLY A LITTLE BIT OF THEM ALL. WE FOCUS ON PLAYING AND CREATING MUSIC AND SOUNDS THAT MAKE US HAPPY. YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU ARE PLAYING AND CREATING IF OTHERS ARE ALSO TO BELIEVE.
What do you think is bad about the music business nowadays? And why has it turned out that way? BUSINESS IS FOR THE LABELS TO DEAL WITH. WE MAKE MUSIC AND THE MUSIC HAS NEVER BEEN AS EXCITING.
What do you think is good about the music business? IT GIVES US THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE OUR EXPERIENCE WITH OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS AROUND THE WORLD.
What bands are you listening to right now? ZAMFIR
Do you think the internet killed the video star or created some new ones? What are your thoughts about the power of the internet and do you think it is a powerful source for new projects, new experiences, and new music? Or is it killing the opportunities for valid creative projects? THE INTERNET IS A REAL TOOL THAT CAN BE USED VERY CREATIVELY BY PEOPLE TO SPREAD THEIR ART OR ANYTHING THEY HAVE TO OFFER TO A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE.
Have you ever questioned your own music? Have you ever thought it wasn’t good enough and just wanted to drop everything and start again doing something else? WE DO THAT ABOUT 1000 TIMES A DAY.
What is your definition of success? ARE YOU HAPPY? IF THE ANSWER IS YES, THEN YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL.
Even with your growing popularity over the past couple of years, you always try and make time to talk to fans, even outside of signing lines and formal meet and greets. It's obvious that it's nothing you have to do, so what is it that makes you want to engage with your fans in a more casual setting? BECAUSE WE LOVE YOU GUYS AND LOVE TALKING TO YOU AND HEARING WHAT YOU THINK!
How do you determine when a song/album is really finished to go to the process of mastering? Is it based on gut feeling you get from listening or a check list that's marked of? THE SONGS ARE NEVER DONE, WE JUST ABANDON THEM.
PART 6 : 22/06/2011 (réponses de tomo) - Spoiler:
- Citation :
- In 30STM songs, there is a lot of reference to faith, philosophy and religion. Why do you always make reference to that and what exactly do you have faith in (other than each other)?
WE HAVE FAITH IN YOU! WE HAVE FAITH IN HARD WORK AND FOLLOWING DREAMS UNTIL THEY BECOME REALITY...
Do you enjoy all this non stop world travel and what is the most interesting place they have been to?
EVERY SINGLE PLACE IS INTERESTING FOR DIFFERENT REASONS, WE LOVE THE FACT THAT WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD AND SHARE THIS EXPERIENCE WITH ALL OF YOU, AND YES, THIS IS A GRUELING SCHEDULE WE HAVE PLACED ON OURSELVES BUT WE TRULY BELIEVE THAT IT WOULD BE A MISTAKE TO NOT TAKE THESE OPPORTUNITIES AS THEY COME ALONG FOR US, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT TOMORROW BRINGS SO IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO "STRIKE WHILE THE IRON IS HOT" AS THE SAYING GOES...
Favorite surreal film?
THIS IS TOMO ANSWERING THIS ONE, MY PERSONAL FAVORITE IS MR. NOBODY ACTUALLY. I THINK THAT IT IS A BEAUTIFUL FILM AND JARED JUST CRUSHED IT IN THAT ONE!!!
Do you follow / care about the critiques you receive about your stuff, or you prefer to hear and move on to stand by your own inner critics?
WE DON'T REALLY CARE TOO MUCH WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK. THEY CAN SAY WHAT THEY WANT, WE MAKE MUSIC AND ART FOR OURSELVES AND THEN WE SHARE IT WITH YOU, THE PEOPLE WHO DO CARE AND FIND A CONNECTION WITHIN IT.
Have you learnt anything new about your fanbase since introducing (Kyte and) Twitter?
YES, YOU ARE ALL JUST AS INSANE AS WE ARE... AND WE LOVE IT...
Do you think someone can learn to play an instrument who has no musical talent at all or does the initial talent have to be there and then you practice to make yourself better?
THAT IS A TOUGH ONE TO ANSWER, BECAUSE I SUPPOSE THAT THE PERSON WHO IS CALLED UPON TO LEARN TO PLAY AN INSTRUMENT MUST HAVE SOMETHING IN THEM TO CALLS THEM TO MUSIC. WHETHER OR NOT THAT PERSON IS MEANT TO CREATE MUSIC AS A LIFE, IS ALWAYS TO BE DETERMINED. I DO KNOW THAT KNOWING HOW TO PLAY AN INSTRUMENT DOESN'T MAKE SOMEONE A MUSICIAN, ITS THE DESIRE TO SEARCH FOR SOMETHING UNIQUE, AND THE DESIRE TO TELL A STORY THROUGH MELODY AND SONG THAT MAKES A MUSICIAN...
are you planning on doing any other covers in the future?
IF SOME SONG INSPIRES US TO TURN IT INTO A COVER, THEN WE WILL DO IT. WE DON'T REALLY PLAN ON IT WHEN WE DO IT, THE OPPORTUNITY SORT OF PRESENTS ITSELF AND THEN WE DO IT. COVERS ARE A LOT OF FUN AND WE TRULY ENJOY THE CHALLENGE OF MAKING A SONG WE LOVE INTO OUR OWN...
do you find it harder and harder to find peace and regular person time on tour? (ex going to eat or just walking around the streets)
WE ARE SO BUSY WHEN WE ARE ON TOUR THAT HAVING ANY PERSONAL TIME IS DIFFICULT IN GENERAL. WE HAVE BECOME EXPERTS OF MAKING TIME FOR OURSELVES THOUGH, EVEN IF IN SMALL INCREMENTS.
Do you find inspiration in books, in movies, or in your life to make music?
ALL OF THE ABOVE AND MORE, ANYTHING CAN BE INSPIRATION. THE SOUND OF A TRUCK DRIVING BY THAT YOU HEAR EVERY MORNING CAN BE INSPIRATIONAL. YOU JUST HAVE TO BE OPEN TO RECEIVE IT.
Do you believe in fate?
DO YOU?
PART 7 : 30/07/2011 (réponses de shannon) - Spoiler:
- Citation :
- what is the thing you miss the most of your beginning as a band?
Maybe I miss being able to walk around the venues being unnoticed other than that aaaaaall goooood!
Now that you're booking huge venues, are you interested in doing smaller intimate venues anymore?
We do actually play some smaller venues sometimes... There is something to said playing a smaller venue after playing bigger venues. A little more intimate and a little more ol' school... It's fun.
You get a lot of stuff from your fans, what do you really do with it? If you have a garage sale can we come?
We are collecting as much as we can and might have a MUSEUM OF MARS!
What about the Artifact? When will the documentary come out?
Soon. ;)
It seems that with TIW, you've come full circle with S/T all about exploration, ABL about self perception and awareness, and TIW about struggle and freedom (from what I feel they are about) are you then going to come out with a 4th album that will incorporate what made each of those albums great (drum solo's, electronics, the outerspacy guitar riffs, more screamy vocals, and echelon choirs) into one?
We could. :) We'll all have to wait and see!
I'm curious, has there ever been a prank war between you guys? If so, what's one of the best pranks played- by who and to who? You guys seem like a wild and crazy bunch if kept in confined spaces for too long, I can see pranks being played left and right.. Like what you did to Violent Soho at their last show touring with you. (You crazy kids!)
We sometimes have pulled pranks on other people but never on each other.
Do you ever believe there will come a time where all the words in eternity, and every combination possible of them, will already be used in music, and it will be literally impossible to come up with new lyrics?
You're right... It will turn into whistles, grunts and groans and some snapping of fingers and hand clapping.
Is Bart Cubbins going to direct all the videos from now on?
Hope so.
Would you guys ever consider translating, and then recording, your songs into other languages?
That would be interesting.
